This is my FIRST blog post and I’m so excited! I’ve been brainstorming all the things I can’t wait to share with you all! Easter is right around the corner so I thought it would be perfect to start with these DIY Large Wood Bunnies.

These bunnies are so EASY and FUN to make! And the best part is, I literally spend just a few dollars for the materials! I’m not one to make things if I have to spend a ton of money on supplies. To me that is completely pointless. Most of the fun and gratification for me is being able to make something out of nothing. It’s all about being practical!

Supplies:

  • 1/2 to 1/4 inch thick wood
  • jigsaw
  • engineer size prints of bunnies (I had Staples print mine for very cheap) The size of my bunnies are roughly 27.5 ” x 13″.
  • acrylic paint
  • brushes
  • ribbon and lace (I use old lace curtains that I find at yard sales to cut up for all kinds of crafts! On of my favorites!)
  • circle foam brush pictured below (I used a Martha Stewart round foam pouncer from Joann’s and used coupon to purchase)

First of all I had a half sheet of old wood about half an inch thick. I have no idea why I had it or how I got it, ( I collect random things I know I’ll make something out of someday).

Next, I googled simple pictures of bunnies that I could easily cut out with a jigsaw. I e-mailed the file to my local staples center and told them what size I needed. (We don’t have Staples in my area anymore! Sad!) Ask for them to print it on engineer size paper. I cut the bunnies out with scissors and then traced them onto my wood.

Then I used a jigsaw to cut them out. It’s really pretty fun! I definitely went outside for this part because the sawdust is pretty messy.

I have a daughter that loves to help me with projects. I laid down some newspaper and let her paint them white for me with acrylic paint. The best price I’ve found for acrylic paint is Walmart. I got a pretty large size bottle for a few dollars that we’ve used on multiple projects.

I then used a cream color acrylic paint and dabbed on dots with my Martha Stewart large round foam pouncer. I had some cute ribbon and lace that I tied around the necks of the bunnies for some more cuteness.

I usually display my bunnies outside by my front door on the repurposed wood fence display in the first picture. I hope you enjoy! Please leave comments below if you like this post!

Thanks!
